Career Paths & Promotional Bandings

We have a number of career paths at ARM.

The diagram (right) is a simplified version rather than a strict represention of our various career tracks.

New starters can and do join us at any stage of the path shown here, but for ease of understanding, let's assume you want to join us at entry level. What then?

Firstly, we have two fairly flexible Recruitment pathways, one Business Development pathway, and a variety of Business Support pathways.

We'll deal with Business Support later as we have a wide range of business support activities and careers, all of which are as important to our business as any Recruitment role.

Recruitment/Sales

We sometimes refer to our recruitment (and certain other) teams as the sales teams in order to distinguish them from other elements of the business. This is because our recruitment (and related) teams are the part of our business that most demonstrably and directly generate revenue.

If you are joining one of our sales tracks, you can join as a trainee Recruitment Consultant, a Resourcer, or a Business Development trainee.

A Resourcer finds candidates to fill the roles we have. If you join us as a resourcer, it doesn't mean you will take the major accounts route. A resourcer may go on to be a Recruitment Consultant, depending on the team they have joined and the way their manager wants to structure the team.

New recruitment staff will discuss their career track during an interview held in their second week of training at ARM. During this interview, they and their manager will agree a six month development plan. The result of this meeting will largely determine their career track.

Many people will become senior resourcers before they become consultants. This may be through their own choice - they may prefer working with candidates to clients. Consultants manage clients and their vacancies and work with resourcers to fill those vacancies.

Business development

Our business development staff are responsible for winning new business and new accounts. Some of them may have moved over from Recruiting or Account Management functions within ARM, but many are recruited externally.

Please note that ARM's Training department, which provides Managed Service Training solutions to our clients, is treated as an element of the BD function in terms of its career track.

Business Support

We have a large support function (comprised of experts within their field) that helps to enhance our business and the service we provide in a variety of ways. It consists of:

Quality and special projects

Ensures that ARM maintains a high quality of service through a number of internal checks, customer satisfaction index and ongoing projects.

Contracts and Compliance

Performs rigorous regulatory and commercial compliance checks of pre-contractual documentation to minimise risk to both ARM and its clients, helps ensure corporate governance, conducts commercial negotiations. Consults with internal and external customers on legal and commercial issues impacting on our, and their, business.

Accounts

A large business function comprising several teams, our Accounts division is (in brief) responsible for the prompt payment of ARM contractors, staff and suppliers, accurate timesheeting, invoicing, and credit control. Our Accounts department also has a major role to play in corporate governance.

IT helpdesk

Responsible for managing not only our entire network, but also the challenging integration of a variety of sophisticated software suites, automated systems and CRM tools used by our staff. Helpdesk also carries out daily troubleshooting and reports and provides solutions to a variety of business-critical functions.

HR

Our HR team comprises internal HR, internal recruitment and Learning and Development for ARM's staff. The team has a broad set of responsibilities and a broad set of skills, and you can read more about some of what they do in these pages. HR has a great deal of responsibility for delivering ARM policy at management level.

Marketing

Our marketing team has a very broad remit and is responsible for devising and delivering our annual marketing plan, which includes a wide array of above and below the line recurring strategies, advertising, promotion, strategy, PR, web design, client projects and more.
