Working for ARM for the past three years
has certainly kept me on my toes. I began as an Account Manager
with the firm’s IT contracts team having come from a full lifecycle
recruitment background with five years in the industry under my
belt. My role quickly changed when an opportunity arose within the
Resourcing team for ARM’s first and largest master vendor client. I
jumped at the new opportunity.
I now work as a Resourcing Partner in a
close-knit team of eight that exclusively serves one client. We are
five resourcing partners, two administrators and the man in charge,
Lee Hanna, our team manager. We provide a fully outsourced
recruitment function to our client which involves both permanent
and contract, internal and external recruitment, managing a supply
chain of second tier suppliers and being on hand to deal with the
contractors and hiring community we have both on site here at
Havant and the other client sites round the country.
My day goes something like this…
I’m a bit of an early bird and like to get
into the office at around 7:30am so that I can check through
emails, get myself and the rest of the team a nice cup of tea and
make sure I am ready for the day ahead. There are usually a few
regular early starters at their desks by then and the office slowly
hots up until the audible buzz, that lasts the whole day, is in
full swing by 8:30am.
There is a steady flow of emails and phone
calls to deal with throughout the day, meetings with hiring
managers to attend and contractors often dropping in to visit us in
the recruitment office. A great advantage of ARM being located at
Langstone Technology Park is that we are on the same site as our
client; making regular contact is extremely easy and I am sure it
is a really positive thing for the client too. I think it allows us
to deliver an excellent service, and that is what we are here for
after all!
Flexibility is crucial in my role. I am never
quite sure what each day will bring and the joy of rolling with the
punches is that it really keeps me engaged and motivated. Whether
you call me a control freak or just extremely process driven, it is
a trait which is really helpful in this role. The pivotal element
of my job is to keep the plates spinning and to maintain the
balance of keeping clients, contractors, candidates and suppliers
happy. I rely on my previous recruitment industry experience
coupled with the need to keep on top of the associated admin tasks
that this role inevitably requires. Luckily being positioned in the
ARM office means that we are part of the ever-increasing energy
that flows throughout the day and there is plenty of banter to keep
us going.
It is hard work, can be pretty hectic and
a little gin and tonic is occasionally required at the end of the
week. But in return I get to work with a fantastic bunch of people,
I can see the sea while I make my morning cuppa (if I squint just a
little) and on top of all that I also get paid to turn up and do my
job well. It is great really. I do not know what the future holds
for me at ARM, but I do know that I am looking forward to it. With
the growth that we have experienced during the time I have been
here come opportunities galore and it is an exciting time to be
part of such a different company.
